This necklace and earrings set dates from 1950’s Japan. The minimalist black-and-silver color palette and chunky links create a modern feel, despite its vintage years. Each link is a crisp glass stone designed to simulate natural onyx. Carved with relief into the surface is a set of Japanese characters (the same for each link)—unfortunately, the meaning of the characters is currently unknown. The earrings bear the same set of characters, but on smaller stones. The stones aren't thin, but rather rectangular prisms with slightly beveled edges that give the classic profile a subtly modern look

, the chain of the necklace is a replacement and is not original to the piece. The rest of the components are intact and original without any other repairs. There are a couple of tiny chips to the glass along the edges and corners which are noticeable only on close inspection. The glass is very fresh looking and the mold is still crisp and distinct.
